What OmniKit does with your data — in plain terms.
OmniKit is a Chrome extension: a side-panel toolbox of small utilities. It has no server of its own — every tool runs inside your browser, and everything you create stays on your device.
Summary
No account, no backend, no analytics, no tracking, no ads. OmniKit does not collect, store on a server, or transmit your data to us or anyone else. Nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly ask a tool to fetch a URL.
What is stored locally
Preferences and the content you create in the tools are saved on your device via chrome.storage.local (and chrome.storage.session for Auto Refresh runtime state): favourites and tool order, theme and language, notes, clipboard snippets you add yourself, calculator history, and per-site Auto Refresh settings if you tick "remember". OmniKit does not use chrome.storage.sync, so this data is not even synced across your own devices.
Network activity
OmniKit makes no background network requests. The only request it can make is the one you trigger yourself in the HTTP Header Viewer: when you enter a URL and press "Fetch headers", your browser performs an ordinary fetch() so the response headers can be displayed. The result is shown to you and discarded — never logged or sent anywhere. QR codes, conversions, formatting, password generation, JWT decoding and everything else run entirely on-device.
What OmniKit does not do
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting of any kind.
- No advertising, and no data ever sold or shared with anyone.
- No third-party servers — there is no backend at all.
- No account, sign-in, or personal information requested or required.
- No remote code: all scripts ship in the package; the calculator uses a hand-written safe parser, never
eval.
Permissions, explained
| Permission | What it's for |
|---|---|
| storage | Save the local preferences and content listed above via chrome.storage. Nothing is transmitted. |
| activeTab | The Page Information tool reads metadata about the tab you are viewing (title, URL, counts of links/images/scripts, charset, viewport, user agent) — only after you open that tool. The snapshot is shown to you and not stored. |
| tabs | Show the title, favicon and hostname of the tab Auto Refresh targets, and pre-fill the current URL in URL Parser and HTTP Header Viewer. Tab metadata is only rendered in the panel — never stored, logged or transmitted. |
| scripting | Inject the one-shot, read-only Page Information collector into the active tab on demand. No persistent content scripts. |
| browsingData | The Clear Cache tool: delete the data categories (cache, cookies, history, downloads, form data, local storage) and time range you choose, after a confirmation. |
| alarms | Schedule reloads for Auto Refresh (intervals of 30 s or more) plus a watchdog that revives the service worker. |
| sidePanel | Display the OmniKit interface in Chrome's side panel when you click the toolbar icon. |
| clipboardRead | Optional, requested only when you press "Read clipboard" in the Clipboard Manager, to copy the current clipboard text into a local snippet. No background clipboard monitoring. |
Deleting your data
Use Settings → Reset all OmniKit data to erase everything at once. Uninstalling the extension also removes all of it, since nothing exists outside your browser's local storage.
Changes to this policy
If what OmniKit collects or does ever changes, this page will be updated and the date above will reflect it.
